Bright Beginnings
There is an Austin tradition for children’s clothing I want to tell you about–Bright Beginnings. This store opened here in Austin 26 years ago by Sally Whitehouse after her children were born. Today, Sally and her husband Marc still own and manage the two local stores and last call center as well as the website (http://www.BestDressedKids.com), and Sally continues to do all the buying herself. This is a business that is truly considered a Mom and Pop operation, and most importantly, a local business. The original Bright Beginnings is located at 38 1/2 Street and Medical Parkway across from Seton Hospital, and the second store is in Westlake Village on Bee Caves Road and Loop 360.
Whether you need a gift for a newborn, some holiday pajamas, cheerleading outfits for your daughter, adorable play clothes, toys, shoes, rain gear, you name it…you can find it at Bright Beginnings. They even carry some “matching mommy” as well as some adult cotton clothing for women.
One of the most unique things that I love about Bright Beginnings is the opportunity they give to local artisans who have designed a product and need a place to sell it. Sally has a place in her heart that supports other local entrepreneurs by agreeing to market their products in her stores. These are high quality goods that once again are truly local. These items include but are not limited to hairbows, t-shirts, socks, baby blankets, monkey-bar drawers, and jewelry.
This is a very fun place to shop for your children. If you haven’t been by lately, you should go. Make sure you tell Sally that Janet sent you!
Enjoy!
Janet
