Bastrop State Park
I just recently took a trip to Bastrop State Park over the 4th of July weekend. It is one of my favorite parks and is just a 30 minute drive from South Austin. Bastrop State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of the New Deal “make work” program, during the Great
Depression in the 1930s and early 1940s.
This park has so much to offer, I don’t know where to start. The park is close to 6,000 acres and is the site of the famous “Lost Pines”. You can hike, canoe, swim, golf, bike and camp at the park. You can go into town and enjoy some shopping and great food. Bastrop also has a zoo and other parks to explore.
If you have a day to spend with the family, a trip to Bastrop will be a memorable trip to take. You’ll wonder why you haven’t been there before as we are so lucky to have this wonderful place just 30 minutes away.
